Episode 360: Creed III

For the first time, the Rocky franchise moves on without Sylvester Stallone’s iconic character as a part of the story, centering this tale around the recently retired Adonis Creed, his family, and an old friend turned new antagonist whose explosive presence creates a dilemma that can only be dealt with one way – in the ring, of course. We mostly think it’s a mixed bag that doesn’t live up to the exquisite storytelling level of the first two entries, but explosive fight sequences and solid drama are there in spurts.

Episode 359: Rocky IV/Rocky IV: Rocky vs. Drago

Only one man can get revenge for his best friend’s death and stop the Cold War dead in its tracks during a single boxing match, and that’s exactly what Rocky Balboa does. We discuss our enjoyment of this entry in the famous fighting sport franchise not only by talking about ROCKY IV but also Stallone’s recent Director’s Cut version, ROCKY IV: ROCKY VS. DRAGO, through comparison and contrast.

Episode 358: Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

It feels great to come out of an MCU film genuinely entertained again, and that was the case for both of us when we experienced the newest big adventure with Marvel’s smallest heroes. We discuss why this fantastical family-focused space opera really worked for us and highlight a couple of our nitpicks, as well.

Episode 357: Belle

We love a good blockbuster anime that presents emotional themes, striking visuals, and awesome musical numbers. Hosada’s latest doesn’t quite coalesce as strongly as we might have hoped, but his depiction of a metaverse and some moving themes still held our attention, and the film has some memorable highlights for sure.

Episode 355: Everything Everywhere All At Once

We take on one of the most creative multiverse stories ever put to screen and share our responses to its absurdity as well as its strong familial relationship drama. Not everything worked perfectly for us, but we think there’s a lot positive to be taken away from this special film.

Jordan Peele takes on the original sci-fi blockbuster as only he can, with an undercurrent of thought-provoking commentary, a tinge of horror, and an intelligent and enjoyable story told with a charismatic cast. Episode 353: Strange World

Disney put out an original animated tale this year with a diverse family who goes on a fantastical adventure in the style of old serials, encountering odd, adorable creatures and fascinating biomes. It is also a heartfelt story about legacies and fatherhood, in addition to the strong points it makes about careful stewardship of natural resources. Sadly, too few have seen it, but since we thoroughly enjoyed our journey to this strange world, we just had to have this conversation all about why.
