Episode 306: National Champions

With the day of this episode release being the same day of the 2021 College Football National Championship game, we thought it appropriate to discuss this newly released film adaptation of a stage play about a fictional college star QB staging a strike just hours before the same big game in order to fight for fair compensation, equality, and respect for the athletes who put their bodies and health on the line for their schools. Lots to discuss here – some about the movie and even more about the issues raised.

FF+ The 355/The Killing of Two Lovers

Our only noteworthy new release this week is here to take a stab at starting a new female-led action spy franchise, but I also review a currently streaming indie gem from last year with a very heavy, suspenseful marital drama as its plot.

The 355 – 01:04

The Killing of Two Lovers – 11:24

Episode 305: Nine Days

We probably should start off the new year with something nice and light, but instead we are following up last week’s conversation about how best to live when facing death with a very different style of film that tackles similar themes. This film is like heavy, but extremely moving and has the potential to impact how you look at your time here on this earth. Enjoy the discussion.

Episode 304: The Green Knight

It’s time to play a Christmas Game. For this year’s holiday-themed episode, we dig into David Lowery’s adaptation of the famous 14th-century poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight. Steeped in medieval myth, legend, and Lowery’s penchant for surrealism, this character study and exploration of knightly virtues is rich for conversation and provides us plenty to ponder.
