FF+ American Fiction

Way more drama than comedy, but the satire can be biting, even if it is rendered less effective by perhaps coming too late. Sadly, it’s underwhelming how all of the family issues sub-plots don’t feel like they coalesce strongly with the main story point and take up most of the runtime. A solid film with strong performances but my experience with this overall was just fine – nothing close to revelatory or emotionally stirring.

Episode 237: Fast and Furious 6

The one with the infinite runway and probably the best villain.

Episode 234: Fast and Furious

Though many dislike this entry, we have a fondness for this particular film in the Fast Saga and think it is severely underrated. In this episode, we gush about how Justin Lin starts to take this franchise down new roads while solidifying character relationships we’ve come to love and giving us a healthy dose of mostly still grounded racing action.

Episode 166: Bumblebee

This week we’re catching up with a film from 2018 that was over-shadowed by a few other big releases during the Christmas season, but that nonetheless has a surprising amount of heart and plenty for us to talk about. That’s right, the Transformers franchise reboot is off to a good start with this new prequel story from LAIKA Studio’s own Travis Knight.

Episode 076: Silver Linings Playbook

It’s week three of our book-to-movie series here in September and in this episode we are discussing the 2012 David O. Russell adaptation of Matthew Quick’s hit novel. Silver Linings Playbook offers us a peak into lives we don’t often see on a Hollywood screen, and particularly not in a way that results in romance. We have a great time discussing how these relationships make us feel and what we might learn from them.
