Episode 160: Missing Link

LAIKA Studios is back with another beautifully animated and charming tale, this time a globe-trotting adventure with an unlikely trio of characters exploring not only mythical lands but themes such as identity and colonialism, as well. This film also gives us gut-busting laughs and endearing moments, plenty of material to discuss for this week’s conversation.

MOVIE REVIEW: Missing Link

Coming this week, MISSING LINK is my favorite animated film of 2019 thus far & will be covered on Episode 160 of the podcast. Fans of Laika Studios should ignore any lack of excitement from the trailers. It’s great family fun & exciting to see an original animated story so well told.

THE LEGO MOVIE 2 goes bigger than ever before and we’re a bit split on just how well that worked. We talk through the pop culture reference-heavy thematically rich sequel with so much going on that it couldn’t help but give us plenty to discuss. Episode 148: Groundhog Day

This week, arriving a couple of days behind schedule, and celebrating the latest American holiday, we thought it would be fun to talk about one of our favorite comedies, Harold Ramis’ Groundhog Day, one of the more hilarious time travel movies ever made and one that has plenty of thematic depth to discuss in addition to its great usage of weather puns.

Minisode 058: Christmas Vacation

December’s Donor Pick was a runaway winner and we are thrilled to have a conversation about one of the hap-hap-happiest Christmas movies. We talk a lot about what makes this particular film so special for us, and determine it lies not just in the great comedy, but in the fantastic relatable character writing of John Hughes.

Let’s cut to the chase - this week we get to discuss our favorite animated film of 2018. Into the Spider-Verse isn’t just the ultimate Spider-man, it’s amazing, spectacular, and astonishing too, and provides us ample material to cover like sympathetic villains, the idea that everyone can be a superhero, and what a playground for telling diverse stories can look like going forward.
