MOVIE REVIEW: Pokémon Detective Pikachu

Full disclosure: I have a cat named after Pikachu and I am a big fan of this franchise in its many forms, including the card game, video games, and its anime series. I think with any beloved property that is being adapted it’s important to consider the fandom (or lack thereof) of the reviewer, so putting my history out there up front for context.

I won’t be surprised if a majority of adults who don’t have a history with Pokémon are meh on this, but fans and kids will adore it. My experience reminded me of READY PLAYER ONE. I wanted to live in this world of DETECTIVE PIKACHU forever. Smashing success!

Episode 164: Desperado

What better time than Cinco de Mayo than to celebrate one of the most exciting action films of the 90’s directed by a man who often shoots in Mexico and starring a Spanish actor and Mexican-American starlet. This film oozes style and kicks major ass, but has moments of poignancy and tenderness that elevate it above many similar films. We have a great conversation about what makes this particular movie special and we hope you’ll enjoy it.

Minisode 61: Game of Thrones S8 E3 “The Long Night”

You’re probably curious why this random non-movie related episode title showed up in our podcast feed. Well, a few of us here at Feelin’ Film are pretty big fans of this show, and this week’s episode was such a big deal that we were bursting to talk about it. And this is the result of that desire. This may just be a one-off episode. We really aren’t sure right now, but regardless it’s us reacting to “The Long Night”, a.k.a. The Battle of Winterfell, and we hope you’ll enjoy the conversation.

Episode 163: Avengers: Endgame

This week we are of course talking about the final chapter in a story 10 years and 22 films in the making. We break down our reaction to this once-in-generation event, while also taking a look back at the past and contemplating the future. This is a wonderful conversation that we both thoroughly enjoyed and think you will, too.

Episode 162: Snowpiercer

This month’s donor pick theme was comic book/graphic novel films not part of the Marvel or DC universes and our listeners still managed to get Captain America in the mix. We discuss this sci-fi, horror, dystopian, post-apocalyptic film with deep themes and kick-ass action and have a great time doing it.

MOVIE REVIEW: Avengers: Endgame

100% spoiler-free with no plot points even hinted at! AVENGERS: ENDGAME closes the book on one of the greatest film franchise achievements in history on a very high note. It is every bit the emotional experience you expect & a gratifying finale. Also, for the first time in 10+ years there is no post-credit scene so feel free to rush to the bathroom as required.

It took Marvel 21 films but they finally have a female-led superhero flick. We are joined by Patrick Willems to discuss the origin story of Captain Marvel and how it fits within the MCU franchise, as well as whether the film’s high expectations were met and how its cultural significance is woven into the narrative.
