Episode 386: The Burial

Based off of an article in the New Yorker, Maggie Betts takes a simple and straightforward case and makes a mountain out of a mole hill, amplifying racial undertones of the time period into a place of priority that distracts from what could have been a more compelling courtroom drama. The performances are great and the points being made about poor character are admirable, but ultimately this was the wrong approach and results in a very middling and not particularly rousing legal film.

Episode 373: Elemental

Pixar brought us one of their most adult films yet in this beautifully animated tale of anthropomorphic elements. There’s a lot going on, though, from a romantic comedy to an immigration allegory and more. We dig into our responses to this somewhat surprising entry from the studio and share what moved us and where we felt it fell a little short.

Episode 326: Jurassic World Dominion

Despite not loving “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”, we were fascinated by the potential stories that could be told in the world it setup. We also just love seeing gigantic, loud CGI dinosaurs, so of course we’re always going to check out a new film in this franchise. Hear us talk out our complicated feelings about how this series comes to a close (at least for now).
